Admissions Requirements for Fall 2024

 

The application for the Fall 2024 Dental Hygiene program is now closed. The application for Fall 2025 will open November 1, 2024. 

Dental Hygiene 

Information Sessions

Virtual information Sessions are held from September through January of each year. The Admissions Office and the Dental Hygiene Program Director will share up-to-date information about the program and answer questions about the curriculum, clinical assignments, support services, and the admissions process. Attendance at an information session within the last two years is required for all applicants to the Dental Hygiene program. Please RSVP for an upcoming session below:

Dental Hygiene Application Materials

Dental Hygiene applicants are required to submit the following materials to the Admissions Office, postmarked no later than 5:00 pm EST on February 7, 2025:

  • (Open November 1, 2023) 
  • Official high school transcript or GED/HiSET diploma
  • Official and final college and/or university transcripts
  • Proof of completion of college-level pre-admission coursework (see below for specific course listing)
  • Attendance of a Dental Hygiene Information Session within the last 2 years

Your application will be considered incomplete until all materials are received. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. 

Decisions & Deadlines

The Dental Hygiene program is offered each fall semester is not available for a spring semester start. The maximum enrollment is 28 students per year. Once the top candidates have been selected, a waitlist of up to 30 students will be created in chronological order and maintained until the first week of classes in the fall semester.

When considering applications, the following are the most important criteria:

  • Total number of courses completed toward completion of the A.S. Dental Hygiene degree (see Pre-admission coursework)
  • Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher in pre-admission college coursework

Admissions Timeline:

  • Application Opens: November 1, 2024
  • Application and materials deadline: February 7, 2024, at 5:00 pm EST
  • Decision e-mails and letters sent: Early April 2025

Selective Admissions Note:

The Dental Hygiene program is a highly selective and competitive program with a limited quantity of spaces. Students who complete the admissions requirements are eligible for application review by the admissions office, however, completion of the minimum admissions requirements does not guarantee acceptance or a spot on the waitlist.

 

Pre-admission Coursework

Please review the pre-admission coursework carefully as the course requirements have changed.

All applicants are required to complete: 

  • Chemistry for the Health Sciences with a lab (or) General Chemistry with a lab (or) higher within 5 years of the program start date (i.e. courses completed no earlier than Fall 2019). 
  • English Composition I (ENL101)
  • Human Communication (COM103)
  • Human Anatomy & Physiology I with lab (BIO251)
    Please note: If taken at 4Cs, prerequisite is BIO109 (Survey of Biology) or BIO151 (General Biology I)

Applicants will receive additional points for the completion of the following:

  • Human Anatomy & Physiology II with lab (BIO252)
  • Nutrition (HEA201)
  • Microbiology (BIO281)
  • General Psychology (PSY101)
  • Principles of Sociology (SOC106)

Courses listed on official transcript must be complete with a final grade. Courses that are "in progress" or do not have final grade posted cannot be accepted. Transfer credits must have a grade of C- or higher and be completed at a regionally accredited college or university

Pre-Dental Degree Track 

Students seeking to attend ¹û¶³´«Ã½ to take pre-admission coursework are encouraged to apply for our Associate in Arts: Health Science, Pre-Dental Hygiene Focus program. This program does not have special admissions requirements and is recommended for students who are not transferring credits from another college or university. 

Upon Acceptance

Upon acceptance, accepted students must complete the following:

  • Submit a $250.00 deposit (non-refundable after July 15)
  • Submit completed CORI/SORI form by the deadline
    • Each student will be required to undergo CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) / SORI (Sex Offender Registry Information) checks in order to participate in the clinical practice required, pursuant to the Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 28A, Section 1 et seq., and regulations promulgated to such statutes. A student who receives a negative status on his/her CORI/SORI check will not be allowed to enroll or continue in the program.
      CORI/SORI checks will be conducted each semester that the student is in the Dental Hygiene program.
